Installation Procedure
Engine is distributed as a self-installing executable package, which will download any additional required packages. To start the installation process simply double-click the installer.
Please have your license key (in the form of XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX) handy, which will need to be entered during the installation phase.
The installer will then guide you through the installation process.
License Activation
The last step of the installation is to activate your Engine license. This requires an active internet connection that is able to reach our activation server. Type your activation key in this field and IdeaLayer will generate an appropriate license file for your machine.
If this fails, you can visit the manual activation page and specify the details of your license to perform a manual activation. If successful, the page will provide a link to download the license key file, which can be manually placed into your IdeaLayer installation (C:\ProgramData\IdeaLayer Engine). To use the manual activation page, you'll need to specify your license ID, activation key and the MAC address of your computer.
Obtaining your MAC Address
You can find out your MAC address by opening a Windows command prompt and entering the command, getmac.
-
Open a Windows command prompt – Windows Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt. Alternatively, you can select 'Run' and type cmd.
-
At the command prompt, type
getmac /V
and press the Enter key. -
Note down the 12 digit hexadecimal number (labelled Physical Address) on the row marked "Ethernet". If you don't have an Ethernet adapter, note down any other Physical Address listed.
-
Enter this MAC address in the relevant field on the manual activation page.
Firewall exceptions
When running Engine for the first time, you may see a Windows firewall dialog box which prompts you about allowing incoming network connections.
Please ensure that all boxes are ticked (to enable Engine to communicate on both the "Private" and "Public" networks), and click "Allow access" at the bottom (which will require administrator permissions). This dialog box will only appear the first time that Engine is run on your computer, however it may reappear when running Engine from a different user account for the first time.
